Have you ever visited Airlie Beach in Australia? Hands down it is one of my favourite places to visit. It is a kooky little town with a big attitude. The gateway to the Great Barrier Reef means it is a hug for backpackers and 10 years ago, I remember visiting it with my friend Stacey on our way to the Whitsundays. Memories of a backpackers lodge that was set up around a pool, mozzies and good times ensue.

So when I was contacted by Stacy and Jez, enquiring if I would like to come and photograph their wedding there… I pretty much planned a whole trip and life move to Australia! I could not wait!

Stacy and Jez don’t live in Airlie but the place has very special meaning to them. Both Jez and Stacy wanted  wedding that would reflect their love of the area, their families and their friendships. They chose to get married at the amazing Deja Vu Waters Edge, an amazing spot set slightly above the town with a  fabulous out look across all of Airlie beach and and the Whitsundays peeking at you on the horizon.  Stacy looked utterly incredible in her Leonard Derecourt dress and the boys looked very dapper in their light grey suits, perfect for the Aussie heat.  Their ceremony was just gorgeous with Stacy’s beautiful sisters giving her a way. A moment which brought tears to all our eyes.

One thing I love about Australian weddings is the time that couples give to portraits and the day before I had found a beach that I thought would be perfect. The sun would be in the right place and it was sheltered from any wind. So off we all went, Stacy and Jez and their bridal party for some drinks on the beach and some photos. Then it was back to Waters Edge for a poolside party surrounded but their closest friends and family.

Stacy and Jez’s , I can’t believe it has been nearly a year since your amazing day. I hope you enjoy a moment reminiscing with this post, and thank you both for letting me be there. I cant wait to see you, and Charlie, again soon.

Since planning her own destination wedding, Stacy has since set up her own amazing website for Australian brides called Venues 4 Weddings, which reviews and looks at wedding venues all around the country. It is a fabulous resource for brides and grooms planning their own day, perhaps from afar, who want a bride or grooms perspective on a venue. To get real honest insights. I cannot recommend her site enough!
