Dreamcatcher Wedding | With A Gypsy Soul | Editorial Shoot
I dream of dreamcatchers. I have three hanging above my bed, because just one won’t do. I have them in my van, in my notebooks and anywhere else I find a space to hang one. I have a collection that keeps on growing so combine the words, ‘Dreamcatcher Wedding’ and I am in heaven.
I met the very lovely Trudy from With A Gypsy Soul at a local craft market in Newquay after seeing her beautiful work on Instagram. She makes the most beautiful dreamcatchers and wall hangings which have become my go-to birthday and wedding gifts (and gifts for me!).
With an idea to create beautiful dreamcatcher wedding ceremony stands which can be hired and to offer hire of dreamcatchers for wedding and events, we started chatting about doing shoot together. The day we sat drinking coffee and brainstorming it was like a coming together of minds. We had the same inspiration images pinned on our mood boards, the same taste and totally got what the other was saying from the moment we started talking. We must have looked like a right pair, sat in the window of a local cafe animatedly talking plans, nodding excitedly and feeling totally inspired.
Without a hesitation of thought, we both loved the idea of having the shoot at Retorrick Mill. The most amazing (and kind of a secret but if you know… you know) place that is a campsite, restaurant and bar, venue for weddings and parties and hosts the brilliant Chill at The Mill Festival every year. We both absolutely love it there and Wilf and Dawn are utterly wonderful and totally got on board with us turning up and taking over for a few hours before the Mill opened for its legendary Sunday roasts. Seriously, if you are ever in Newquay or Mawgan Porth, please do yourselves a favour and stop in for a Sunday lunch with Scott and Babs. It is out of this world.
Bringing together some favourite local Newquay and Cornwall creatives, we had a vision of a wedding shoot that was a little different. Very definitely a wedding, but done your own way.
When it came to dresses, both Trudy and I wanted something beautiful but unique. Not a classic bridal look but something inspiring and perfect for a bride who would do things her way. As huge fans of Sailaway Dress Company (I have a rapid growing collection in my own wardrobe that makes me excited for Summer) we thought they would be perfect. Having Holly and her gorgeous dresses on board was a dream and we chose one of her beautiful silk Jasmin dresses in her iconic style. When she also offered us to use one of her vintage inspired concept dresses, we jumped at the chance!
Flowers were created by the lovely Clare of the Cornish Cutting Garden who totally took our idea of a ‘dreamcatcher bouquet’ and nailed it. Trudy added some feathers and BOOM!
India’s natural boho hairstyle was perfected by the talented Rosanne Abell who worked with the gorgeous feather veils from With A Gypsy Soul. Soft and natural make up by the incredible Tamsyn Siddiqui.
Cathryn from Sincerely May Design created beautiful dreamcatcher inspired stationery and the lovely Elle from Inspire Hire let me rummage through her amazing pieces to decorate the table. Suzi Humphries Cake Design, who I have had the pleasure of devouring one of her delicious cakes at a recent elopement, made a gorgeous 3 tier woodland inspired cake for us too.
Then we had Mike and India. Our models.
As wedding photographer I am used to working with real couples and whilst I love the idea of doing styled shoots and editorials, when it comes to photographing them, I love to work with real couples. They graciously accepted my request to be a part of the day and were amazing. A gorgeous couple, so easy to photograph and so much fun! Not only did Mike model for us, he multi tasked and filmed for us too. The man behind Pura VIDa Cornwall, Mike is a talented videographer who captured the spirit of the shoot perfectly for us, scroll below to see!
